Griff UK

Overview

Established in 1835, Griff originally specialised in chain manufacturing before pivoting to become the UK’s leading manufacturer of Wear Parts for machinery used in the Root Crop Harvesting Industry. With a dominant share of the UK market and a market-leading product, the company’s growth has been limited by a lack of sales and marketing activity. Operating in a highly niche sector with only a handful of global competitors, Griff remained largely unknown to major European customers despite the strength of its offering. The company was suffering from high customer concentration risk and seasonality which caused problems with cashflow and production planning.

Investment Strategy

The addressable market for Griff’s products was substantially larger in Europe, driven by significantly larger OEMs. A targeted go-to-market strategy was implemented to increase export sales.

Developed a new brand and identity to support strategic market repositioning.

Production capacity was simultaneously expanded by introducing additional shifts—transitioning from an 8/4.5 to a 24/4 manufacturing operation.

The improved gross margin was reinvested into bespoke automated machinery to replace Griff’s outdated equipment—driving further gains in gross margin percentage, operational reliability, and product consistency.

Implemented manufacturing best practices, key performance indicators (KPIs), and effective sales and marketing strategies, while optimising use of the company’s MRP system—most critically, the accurate management of Bills of Materials (BOMs).
